"It’s spring down here now and Summer is coming fast. It’s getting pretty hot, not Phoenix hot, but
the Sun here just feels worse.
" It was the last week of the cambio.(I don't know what they
call it in English) I can't believe that it's been 6 weeks in Chile already! I
think you just have to live 6 weeks at a time on the mission, because you never
know what's going to happen. Like today,
my companion, Elder "M" left and I am now with an Elder M. (Another Chilean) Apparently he also speaks English. I have
to go pick him up tonight. My
new companion leaves in January, so I might "Kill him" as they say
here. When somebody goes home they "die" and their companion
"killed" them. Hopefully my
new comp will have some drive, because everyone I'm around all the time is
burned out. I hope this guy won't be!"
"I should probably send you guys an email from this kid who seems to be having the time of his life. I would love to say that I teach 1.000 people
who all drop bad habits when they hear the restored Gospel and that they have
motivation to change. But it's not the U.S. People don't really care. I bet
I see more depressing stories in one day than anyone in the US, serving their
missions do. Just obey the
commandments! That's really the best guide
that we have been given, and I know that
now more than ever! The people I used to work with also taught me that. They taught me
(by their bad decisions) that OUR LIVES CAN TURN TO RUINS, just by making one
stupid choice and not obeying one commandment! It sucks because most people never
even started with a chance in life. But that’s why we are here, to try
and help them change."
"We did get a few interesting stories this past week. There is
this active guy in our ward, but I found out this week that he isn't
baptized. To me he seemed to be a great
member, but had no calling. He told us he wants to be baptized but he has to
wait until next year because of "the ritual". I was thinking what the heck is this guy is
talking about?? Then he explained that his family is a bunch
of idol worshiping pagans. That was fun to hear about! He is currently the one who holds the idol in
his home. Next year it passes to his brother. Weird stuff. But I guess that's S.A for you."
"This past week an inactive members 2nd floor burned, so our
entire zone went over there and sandpapered the smoke damage and everything. We got horribly dirty, and then the next day
we painted. It was really fun."
Those are the highlights! I feel bad that he is still somewhat struggling. Please email him encouraging thoughts! He and his new Comp could use our prayers as well!

I continue to love reading his posts. I'm taking two online classes, one of my classes is World Religions. I don't know what religion they follow in Chile, but the religions in Asian countries believe it is natural to follow many religions. Perhaps that is what he is experiencing in Chile. One thing I know for sure, I'm glad I've been studying other religions because it has helped to solidify my belief in Mormonism.....Sister Rohna Hines
ReplyDeleteArizona is obviously different from FL> People here are not falling over them selves looking for an opportunity to change their lives either. When he becomes more comfortable with the language he will have a better time of it. Then he won't have to wait for his comp to decide to get to work.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rohna and Paula. :)
